Eric Barbier started to work very early in cinema and advertising. Graduated from the National School of Cinema (IDHEC) he directs very quickly his first short films –The Malediction of Saint Merry (1980) – Who’s in the Raincoat ? (1981) – Sanghaï (1981) and La Face Perdue (1982) Grand Prix at the Albi festival. Shown several times on tv.

During this period he is several time assistant to Howard Guard and Tony Scott on commercials produced by PAC.
In 1985, he wins the Victor Hugo prize which allows him to direct his first feature film « LE BRASIER » with Marushke Detmers and Jean Marc Barr, that screens in 1991, biggest French production of 1990 which show the life of Polish emigrants in the coal mines of northern France in the 1930’s. The film wins the Jean Vigo prize.

In 1993 he directs « LES ANNÉES LYCÉE » a TV special about 1968 in Paris.
In 1995 he leaves for a month with the French Ministry of Culture and Cooperation to work on 4 films directed by Lebanese students.
In 1995 he directs a third film « TOREROS » for the cinema.
In 2006 he directs « THE SNAKE » with Yvan Attal, Clovis Cornillac and Pierre Richard. This film has been shown in over 10 countries. He is now finishing the writing of his next film « THE LAST DIAMOND » and continues to direct many commercials.
