Michel Meyer
For Michel, everything started in the mid 80’s when he founded the multimedia group Wonder Products with fellow artists from the Beaux Arts school of Paris. The group produced avant-garde video art and staged art performances with multi screen displays that were shown in numerous international festivals. Its most famous events were an exhibition art the modern Art Museum of Paris and a serie of performances at the Theatre de la Bastille.
Naturally, Michel got interested in CGA graphics from the start and was one of the first french director to work with digital 3D and 2D techniques with companies like Ex Machina, Sogitec or Mc Guff.
In the 90’s, he got more and more into real live shootings and participated in the emergence of “World music” by directing numerous music videos for African artists like Salif Keita, Manu Dibango, Angelique Kidjo and Geoffrey Oryema, but also for more mainstream singers like Celine Dion, Dany Brillant and J.J. Goldman, among others.
Since the end of the 90’s, Michel directs commercials for famous and international clients like Rolex, Tag Heuer, Segafredo, Evian, Roquefort, Issey Miyaké, Carte d’Or, Henniez or the Egyptian Tourist Authority.
Michel loves to travel and to experience different cultures. He speaks fluently English, German and Spanish.
Directing a commercial is a very precise art, like the delicate work of a watchmaker in which every details matter and everything is planned in advance. Yet, a film is something artistic and alive. One should not hesitate to punch in a good new idea even if it goes against previous plans. A good director is the one who manages to push everything to its highest limits and gets the best out of his crew. For me a great film is a film where I find all the details that I imagined before but also that extra something of magical nature that most of the time was unpredictable and that finally makes the film even better than every body expected.”
“My favorite sayings :
It is useless to climb on a coconut tree without nuts.
When the wise man points at the moon, the fool looks at his finger.
Only the fish knows the dreams of the sleeping water.
